So there is this “game” called cokkuri-san in Japan, and it has something to do with kitsune, (a japanese fox/god) The game is played by drawing all of the japanese alphabet and a little house. You put 10 yen on it and call out the spirit of cokkuri and ask him questions and stuff. I heard that it was japanese witch craft and I was just wondering if it was true.
The game you are referring to makes an appearance in Japanese anime. Kokkuri-san is believed to be a fox spirit who can reveal secrets if you summon it. Japan has a long and rich folklore history regarding the fox. The game of kokkuri-san became hugely popular among young schoolkids (mostly girls, I believe) in the late 1970s
