This is a chat system invented before the World Wide Web that was used for university conferences. Many of today’s Internet users are unaware of the IRC and that makes it fertile ground for those seeking serious conversation. Web based chat rooms have over taken the IRC but often will include, or be front ends for, Wiccan IRC channels.

The people encountered there are usually very serious and proud of their religion and are willing to answer sincere questions about the craft and the religion of Wicca itself and this is often the first step to meeting with a group of Wiccans in the local area. Wiccan chat rooms allow everyone involved to insure that they are dealing with safe and serious people. Wiccan chat rooms have done more to open up this age old religion to the world that most anything else.
