Kabbalah is an esoteric Hebrew study, and not the sort of thing that one would expect to see in Hollywood. Nevertheless, over the last few years Kabbalah has become big. The reason is that pop star sensation Madonna has adopted it as a spiritual study. Hollywood has always been thought of as a center of the fringe and esoteric behavior, but much of that is unfortunate.
Last year, Jeff Bridges, the famous actor that starred in such films as Iron Man and Seabiscuit, was mentioned in an article that focused on wicca in Hollywood. In an interview with the New wiccan church of SoCal, a leader of the organization talked about Jeff Bridges’ involvement with the church. The article revealed that both Bridges and his wife of 30 years are practicing members of the sect that advocates the use of Marijuana for ritual purposes-Jeff Bridges is a long time advocate of the legalization of Marijuana.
The interview was conducted on the condition of anonymity, and the individual stated that Jeff Bridges practices under the Wiccan name of Rev. Jeff Xenith. Wicca is an oddly low profile religion and only are few openly talk about it, but not because of fear of exposure.
Who’s Who?
Madonna, the advocate of Kabbalah, has been openly involved in the occult in the past, and this includes Wicca. Stevie Nicks, the singer from Fleetwood Mac, has long been thought to be a Wiccan. Cybil Sheppard, the Academy Award winning actor, was said to have accepted of her awards and was quoted as saying, “Thank the Goddess.” Goddess worship has long been associated with Wicca, and is associated with Gnosticism as well.
The lead singer of heavy metal band, Godsmack, has long been a public advocate of Wicca and a open practitioner of the religion. Few proudly proclaim themselves to be Wiccan in Hollywood, but this should not be interpreted to mean that Wicca is an embarrassment in Hollywood. Instead, know that most entertainers seek to keep their private lives as private as possible, and this includes their religious beliefs.
There has however, been a long tradition of association between Hollywood and the occult as well as other alternative belief systems. Wicca is one of the fastest growing religions in America and plenty of television shows and movies have depicted Wicca as a central theme of the story. If one had access to a full list of the shows and celebrities that are associated with Wicca it might be longer than you think.
