There have been more than a few films, plays, books and television shows that have portrayed wicca in both positive and negative lights. For many in the main stream Wicca is perceived as a youthful indulgence at best and not a serious religion. At worst it is painted as a dark and misanthropic, satanic practice that can lead to illegal activities, abnormal sexual practices or worse. Of course nothing could be further from the truth. Wicca is a very gentle and peaceful religion that focuses on the earth and worships a Goddess as well as male God Forms.

During the 1990′s a host of Wiccan themed television shows made the prime time on American television networks such as Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There were movies such as The Craft, which stared Fairuza Balk, an openly Wiccan actress that owned a famous Wiccan book store in Hollywood. As The US shifted toward a more conservative bent, this has faded somewhat, but not entirely. Charmed, a popular television series ran for 8 years and was based entirely on Wicca.
There is real Wiccan television, though, and it can be found on the Internet. Wicca TV is a very successful Internet broadcast television series that covers many real topics on the subject. It is a daily broadcast intended for wiccans about Wiccans. wicca and witchcraft have always had a role in American society and entertainment. As Wicca has established itself as a serious religion, the trend has been towards using depictions of the craft that were more accurate than ever.
However, Harry Potter is still the most successful Wiccan entertainment in history with millions of books sold, and some of the most popular movies ever made. As ecology and the green movement grow in strength, Wicca will surely become more visible and popular.
